Top 10 Films of 2009

I'm usually not a big fan of top 10 movie lists, but everybody does them each year, so here are mine.

Top 10 films released in 2009 (in no particular order)

  1. Avatar

  2. The Good, the Bad, the Weird (dir. Kim Ji-Woon)

  3. Mother (dir. Bong Joon-Ho)

  4. Changeling (dir. Clint Eastwood)

  5. Shinjuku Incident

  6. Up

  7. Public Enemy No. 1, Part 2 (dir. Jean Francois Richet)

  8. Watchmen

  9. Terminator: Salvation

  10. Inglorious Basterds

Top 10 films I watched on DVD in 2009 (in no particular order)

  1. CJ7 (dir. Stephen Chow)

  2. Mad Detective (dir. Johnnie To)

  3. Sparrow (dir. Johnnie To)

  4. JCVD (starring Jean-Claude Van Damme)

  5. Taken (starring Liam Neeson)

  6. Ip Man (starring Donnie Yen)

  7. Bonnie and Clyde (first time I have watched this.)

  8. Lost - Season 5 (yes, I actually included a TV series in a FILM list :D )

  9. Six Feet Under - The Complete Series (brilliant HBO TV drama)

  10. Nip/Tuck - Season 5

Honorary Award The Cove

It's a brilliant documentary about the pointless slaughter of dolphins.

Worst Film of the YearThe Twilight Saga: New Moon I'm no hater, I just can't see what's so great about half naked native American teenagers running around and giving lines that come straight from Chinese fortune cookies.

Biggest Disappointment Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

I really love the first part. What a shame the second one turned out so... ...dumb... ...actually. Well, it made loads of money, that's what Michael Bay films do. :D

Please keep in mind that there are a lot of titles I really wanted to watch, but couldn't get round to it. These titles include:

Gran Torino

Love Exposure

The Hurt Locker

District 9

Stepfather (the remake)

Turtle - The Incredible Journey

2012

Ninja Assassin

And sorry to John Woo. Although Red Cliff II was a nice piece of cinema and a return back to form for the master of action I was a bit disappointed by the narrative. But that's just me, I know.
